
From Alapan’s first victorious wind to the dawn of independence, the Philippine flag rises each time.

May 28, 1898 – First unfurling of the Philippine flag. The flag was first raised in victory after the Battle of Alapan in Imus, Cavite.
June 12, 1898 – Formal unfurling during the Declaration of Independence. The same flag was displayed at the proclamation of Independence in Kawit, Cavite.
October 30, 1919 – “Philippine Flag Day” declared during American period. An executive order legalized the raising of the Philippine flag and proclaimed October 30, 1919 as Philippine Flag Day.
1965 – May 28 officially declared as National Flag Day. President Diosdado Macapagal issued Proclamation No. 374, designating May 28 as National Flag Day to honor the Battle of Alapan.
1994 – Extension of National Flag Days (May 28 – June 12), Executive Order No. 179 (1994) encourage Filipinos to display the flag from May 28 until Independence Day on June 12.
Present Day – Annual observance of National Flag Day is commemorated every May 28, marking the start of National Flag Days leading up to June 12.
