22 August 2026, Edmonton, AB – The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary and the Migrant Workers Office in Vancouver held back-to-back training sessions for Overseas Filipino Workers on Food Safety and First Aid on 21 and 22 August 2026. The activities were offered for free during the Consular Outreach Services in Edmonton, Alberta, and in partnership with the Catholic Social Services.
Filipino migrant workers in the care, food and hospitality sectors, as well as other industries, attended the training to enhance their skills and employability. The Food Safety training is a recognized Food Safety Course in Alberta, approved by the Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services to meet the requirements of Section 31 of the Alberta Food Regulation. The participants received certificates of training valid for five (5) years, while those who attended the First Aid training received certification recognized by the Canadian Red Cross valid for three (3) years.
The MWO and OWWA, under the one-country-team of the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, remain steadfast in advancing programs on skills development and employability enhancement for OFWs in line with the mandate of the Department of Migrant Workers on workers’ protection and welfare. END
