18 November 2025 – Building on the momentum of the previous Alaala ng Alamat held at the Consulate on 31 October 2025, and in partnership with Salingpusa Creatives, the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, presented the first ever Aswang Con in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Aswang Con presented a substantial upgrade in scope, interactivity and artistic depth, different from the usual exhibition, by offering an opportunity for Canadians and a younger generation of Filipinos to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Philippines’ vibrant folklore traditions.

The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary was fully represented by its staff and their families, highlighting Post’s continued support for cultural diplomacy initiatives in partnership with the local Filipino community.

The event generated a high demand of interest with the local artistic community in Calgary, as the exhibition presented a special guided tour of the museum, featuring an expanded collection of iconic mythical beings from Philippine folklore which were not present during the Alaala ng Alamat exhibit such as the Siyokoy, Dwende, Tikbalang, and Batibat, among others.

As stated in Consul General Emma R. Sarne’s message on the opening of Aswang Con, ‘They say folklore survives because someone remembers – and someone cares enough to tell the stories again”. Aswang Con provided a creative gateway for the Filipino youth to connect with their roots and it is encouraging to see Filipino families embracing and celebrating these narratives together. END
