The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Vancouver participated in consular outreach missions organized by the Philippine Consulates General (PCG) in Vancouver and Calgary on 3–4 May 2025, delivering essential services to Filipino migrant workers in Victoria, British Columbia, and Edmonton, Alberta.
In Edmonton, Labor Attaché Ma. Celeste Valderrama, together with MWO Administrative Staff (AS) Neil Justin Nicolas, provided consultation and guidance to 31 returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) on matters related to overseas employment certificate (OEC) applications, OWWA membership, and other labor concerns. The MWO team also verified 22 employment contracts and processed 19 OWWA membership applications.
During the Edmonton outreach, Labor Attaché Valderrama also paid a courtesy call to Consul General Emma Sarne of PCG Calgary. The discussion focused on the current situation of Filipino migrant workers in Alberta and Saskatchewan. It also served as an avenue to explore potential areas for continued collaboration between the MWO and PCG. Labor Attaché Valderrama also engaged with representatives from the Catholic Social Services, a non-government organization supporting migrant workers in Edmonton.
Meanwhile, in Victoria, MWO AS Rica Maria Bernardez provided labor-related assistance to 31 clients and verified 31 employment contracts during the outreach.
The Migrant Workers Office in Vancouver is committed to bringing the services of the Department of Migrant Workers and OWWA closer to the OFWs to reaffirm its commitment of protecting the rights and welfare of migrant workers across the office’s jurisdiction in the provinces and territories of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories
