Message for ASEAN Day Celebration 2025

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. extends his warmest greetings to all citizens of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the occasion of the Region’s 58th founding anniversary on August 8, 2025.

“We take pride in the Philippines’ role more than five decades ago, when we laid the foundation for a Region anchored on peace, cooperation, shared progress, and prosperity. Guided by the purpose and principles of ASEAN enshrined in its Charter, we have stood together in navigating evolving regional and global challenges over the years,” the President conveys in a video message.

He recognizes Malaysia’s leadership as Chair of this year’s ASEAN and for steering the Region with themes of inclusivity and sustainability, reflecting not only the enduring aspirations but also the shared responsibilities that all must embrace in today’s dynamic and complex global environment.

As the Philippines assumes the ASEAN Chairship in 2026, the Chief Executive emphasizes that the country will build on ASEAN’s achievements in responding to the Region’s evolving priorities and in facing emerging challenges.

“We will uphold ASEAN principles and continue the Region’s legacy of lasting peace and shared progress as we navigate our future together,” President Marcos Jr. ends in his message.

Celebrated annually on August 8, ASEAN Day commemorates the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1967 with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration, also known as the Bangkok Declaration. ASEAN has played a vital role in promoting economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the Region.
