
27 November 2025 – The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary (Calgary PCG) donated thirteen (13) Filipiniana books to the newly opened Dr. Jose Rizal Study Room at the new Airdrie Public Library, in support of promoting Philippine history, literature, and cultural heritage in Alberta, Canada.
The books were formally turned over on 27 November 2025 by Consul General Emma R. Sarne to Ms. Deb Cryderman, Director of the Airdrie Public Library. Among the donated materials was a facsimile edition of Dr. Jose Rizal’s second novel, El Filibusterismo.
The book donation coincided with the official opening of the Dr. Jose Rizal Study Room, a project of Knights of Rizal – Airdrie Chapter. The ceremony was witnessed by the Philippine Ambassador to Canada, HE Jose Victor Chan-Gonzaga, and Airdrie Mayor Ms. Heather Spearman, alongside members of the various Knights of Rizal chapters in the Western Canada Region, Filipino – Canadian community leaders, and library stakeholders.
The establishment of the Dr. Jose Rizal Study Room and the donation of Filipiniana materials reflect the growing partnership between the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary and Canadian institutions in advancing cultural diplomacy, education, and people-to-people ties. END
