07 February 2026 – Deputy Consul General Victorio Mario M. Dimagiba, Jr., on behalf of the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, attended Hoop Slam 2026, marking the league’s return with a renewed commitment, since its inauguration in 2023, to fostering brotherhood through sports and strengthening community engagement across Central Alberta.
Deputy Consul General Dimagiba thanked Alberta Cultural Festivals & Events Association (ACFEA) and GKM Events Management for creating a space where
connection, culture, and community to grow.
The event was participated by six (6) 40-and-Above Filipino Canadian teams based in Central Alberta highlighting their lifelong athleticism, and community connection through the Philippines most loved sport. The basketball league season will run until 21 March and hopes to deliver months of meaningful competition, and shared celebrations both on and off the court.
Post reaffirms its continued commitment to supporting Filipino community organizations and initiatives that use sport as a tool to promote unity, mentorship, and perseverance. END
