Brief History of the Philippine Consulate General

The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary (PCG Calgary) is the fourth Philippine Foreign Service Post to open in Canada. It covers the prairie provinces of Alberta (AB) and Saskatchewan (SK). Prior to its opening, the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver provided consular services for AB, while the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa and the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto provided consular services for SK.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), noting that there were an estimated 210,000 Filipinos in the two provinces, and mindful of the request from the Filipino community in both provinces, proposed the opening of PCG Calgary and requested funding from the Philippine Congress, which was approved. The landing team from the DFA arrived in Calgary on 27 February 2016, led by its first Consul General, Julius D. Torres. PCG Calgary immediately opened for consular services by initially processing notarial and travel document applications. In July 2017, the Social Security System (SSS) opened its offices in PCG Calgary to provide services to its SSS members in AB and SK.

PCG Calgary was initially located at the Princess Crossing Condominium at 6 St 3rd Ave SW. In June 2018, it transferred to Suite 920 Centre 10 Building, 517 10th Ave SW. PCG Calgary then relocated to its present address at Suite 100, 1001 1st St SE, Calgary, AB T2G 5G3 on 1 May 2021.
PCG Calgary oversees the functions of the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Regina, Saskatchewan which is currently headed by Mr. Pepito Escanlar, consul ad honorem.
