Rehabilitation Update

RISING ANEW: INSIDE THE CCP MAIN BUILDING’S REHABILITATION AHEAD OF ITS REOPENING

As the Cultural Center of the Philippines prepares for its much-anticipated reopening later this year, major rehabilitation works continue to revitalize the iconic CCP Main Building. The effort goes beyond surface improvements, undertaking a comprehensive renewal that preserves its historic character while upgrading it for the demands of the present and future.

Designed by National Artist for Architecture Leandro V. Locsin, the CCP Main Building is a landmark of Philippine brutalism, celebrated for its bold concrete forms and commanding presence along Manila Bay. Decades of cultural milestones have cemented its status as a national treasure, making its careful restoration both a responsibility and a tribute.

The rehabilitation strengthens the building’s structural integrity and replaces aging mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems with more efficient, resilient technologies. At the same time, conservation efforts meticulously protect defining architectural elements to ensure the original vision remains intact.

When it reopens, the CCP Main Building will stand renewed — safer, more sustainable, and better equipped to serve artists and audiences alike. More than a restoration, the rehabilitation project affirms the country’s enduring commitment to preserving its cultural and architectural legacy for generations to come.
